What aurii is, for patients

aurii is software your doctor uses to draft the written record of your visit.

Questions patients ask

What does aurii do?

aurii turns what is said in your consultation into a first draft of your clinical notes, and of any letters to your GP or another doctor involved in your care.

That covers the note of your visit, a referral or update letter, and a discharge summary if you have been in hospital.

Who decides what goes in my record?

Your doctor reads the draft and changes anything that is wrong before signing it.

Is my consultation recorded?

Yes. The consultation is recorded as audio, and aurii turns that audio into text.

The recording, the text and the documents drafted from them are stored in Australia.

Where is my information kept, and who holds it?

Your information is stored in Australia, on Microsoft's computing service. It is encrypted, and every time someone at the practice opens or changes your record that is logged and cannot be erased.

Staff at the companies that run aurii can reach records to fix faults.

The service is operated by Aurii Pty Ltd. Black Shard Pty Ltd builds, hosts and secures the platform.

What can I ask for?

You can ask your doctor not to use aurii for your visit. Your care is the same either way.

You can ask your doctor to show you what aurii wrote.

You can ask the practice who has opened your record.

You can ask the practice to delete your information, within the record-keeping period it has to observe.

If you are unhappy with how your information is handled, speak to the practice first. You can also contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, the government body that oversees privacy in Australia.
